There were 101 goats that made the sift for the sale. The goats were sifted according to the AMGA breed standard. High Selling Doe was offered by Marvin Shurley, Sonora TX & purchased by John Chapman from Hockley TX for $1,000. High selling buck offered by Dun Clements, Albany, TX bought by David & Silver Hill Farms St. Joe, AR for $675. High selling wether offered by Eddie Andrews & bought by Vernon Heston of Nacogodchos, TX for $325. Top buyer was Charles Ritter of Montgomery, Texas. Top volume buyer was Dr. Bobby Lane of Huntsville, Texas.
This years show was judged by Frank Craddock, from San Angelo, Texas. The Grand Champion overall goat & Champion Doe was offered by Don & Dee Worley from Uvalde, Texas. The Reserve Champion overall goat & Reserve Champion Doe was brought by Bill Banker of Orange Grove, Texas. Grand Champion Buck was brought by Coni Ross of Blanco, Texas. Reserve Champion buck was offered by Charles Mote from Mineral Wells, Texas. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion wethers were offered by Eddie Andrews from Larado, Texas.
The general membership re-elected Marvin Shurley for President. Bill Laning retains his position as Vice-President. Robin Walters was re-elected and will still be Secretary - Treasure. Eddie Andrews and Burt Young will retain their positions as member at large, and Coni Ross was re-elected and will handle the regional coordinators. Sam Beaumont was elected to the board to fulfill the remainder of Fred Homeyer's term as member at large.
The speakers at this year's convention were Dr. Frank Craddock, Bob Sims, and Dr. Gary Svetlik. Dr. Craddock, Professor and Extension Sheep and Goat Specialist for Texas Cooperative Extension Service in San Angelo, TX, gave his informative talk on selection, management and parasite prevention. Bob Sims from the Texas Wildlife Damage Management Program talked about predation and predator prevention. Dr. Gary Svetlik is the Veterinary Medical Officer for USDA, APHIS, Veterinary Services in Austin Texas. Dr. Svetlik gave everyone an update on the recent Scrapies Regulations.
The Sam Houston State University Trophy Hunters club cooked a goat burger lunch for all that attended. The AMGA Board members provided the goat meat. We would like to thank all the speakers, and everyone else who helped make this years Sale, Conference, and Membership meeting one of the best in recent years.
